CLOUDCROFT ONLINE NEWSLETTER #168

Dear Subscriber:

Some of my best memories since my first memory have to do with
hamburgers.

Hamburger cook-outs in the back yard. Hamburgers and a milk
shake with a high school date just before going to see
"Viva, Las Vegas". A hamburger and fries just after my first
wife told me she wanted a divorce.

All wonderful memories.

Now there are those that want to take my hamburgers away.

They're getting ready to sue the fast food chains saying
hamburgers are responsible for high cholesterol, over-weight,
pimples and bad TV commercials. It's time for me to speak out.

I promised my partners at Cloudcroft.com that I would avoid any
serious political confrontations in my newsletter articles, but
I don't think the War on Hamburgers is either political or
serious.

I am concerned, though. What will our world be like if these
people succeed in making hamburgers socially unacceptable?

"Hey, why don't you and the wife and kids come over this
evening for a little ping-pong and rice cakes?"

"What a great beach party! We surfed, sang songs around the
campfire and grilled bean sprouts!"

Of course there are things more nutritious than hamburgers.
There are intravenous feedings that are more nutritious, but
man cannot survive on Saline alone. It's fun to roll the dice
on occasion and eat something that tastes good, but may not be
listed in the upper healthy food group categories.

I tried grilling some of my other favorite foods, but the
cheese cake kept falling through the grate. Grape Jell-O on
a sesame seed bun just doesn't cut it.

I'm willing to negotiate. I promise to eat hamburgers only on
days that end in "y" and will forego the extra cheese if the
anti-hamburger coalition will pick on a more substantial issue
like dirty dirt.

The debate rages. Somewhere out there, the cows are smiling.

Q AND A -- BECAUSE CLOUDCROFT ONLINE READERS WANT TO KNOW
----------------------------------------------------------------
Q - Can you pick up television stations on an antenna in
Cloudcroft?

A - Off-the-air television signals in Cloudcroft are very iffy
(and usually very fuzzy).

Some places on the mountain offer fair reception for El Paso
and Albuquerque stations, while other spots just a few yards
away may have no reception at all. TV shops will sell you
antenna boosters, but it has been my experience that they are
of little use.

Inside the village cable is available. Outside the village most
TV viewers opt for satellite systems. The monthly cost of
satellite reception is comparable to cable prices.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
----------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Newsletter:

Thanks for the updates. We just moved from Albuquerque to
Keller Texas (just north of Ft Worth) and we enjoy hearing
about anything with New Mexico culture.

I like living here, but miss the Mexican food found in New
Mexico. Any of your readers want to invest in a Green Chile
Hamburger place in Texas? My wife and I saw one in San Antonio,
Texas, and they sold like hotcakes! Maybe we should open up an
Owl Bar and Cafe like in San Antonio, NM? Looking for an
investor!

Keep the letter coming, and thanks!

Dear Newsletter:

Moths! We had them in our log cabin--one spring when we
returned from the winter in Florida, the piano would not make
a sound! In fact, we could not even depress the keys!

We called for help, and the tuner took it apart. The moths had
packed themselves in the space beneath the keys so tightly
they could not be vacuumed out, only pried out with a knitting
needle!

For a few nights, we placed out kerosene lamps in a large salad
bowl of water. They just swam out after dive bombing into the
pan. Next, we added a little Clorox to the water. Guess what?
In the morning, we had a pan full of white moths, all dead.
After a few days, we would only have one or two each morning.

I wonder what citronella oil would have accomplished had we
burned it in the lamps?

Dear Newsletter:

I have THE cure for your Miller Moth problem--the Greater
Eternal Flying Biloxi Tree Roach. Relics from eons past,
these fierce creatures will rid your house of just about any
vermin you can think of: moths, mice, chipmunks, in-laws,
grown-up kids who refuse to leave home. I'll bring a couple
dozen when we come in July--no need for more as they're quite
prolific.

About the only thing they don't work on is spam and pop-up ads.
